• are pregnant or breastfeeding — mugwort and aconite are traditionally avoided in pregnancy
• are allergic to ragweed, daisies, chamomile, marigold or other Asteraceae/Compositae plants —
mugwort cross-reacts and can trigger a skin or allergic reaction
• have broken, irritated, infected or freshly shaved skin
• have a known heart-rhythm condition — aconite alkaloids can affect the heart if over-absorbed
• intend to use it on a child
Allergen notes. Mugwort / wormwood is a recognised contact and pollen allergen — people with hay
fever or ragweed allergy are most at risk. The adhesive itself (and rosin in some patches) can also cause
contact dermatitis. Always patch-test a small area first.
About aconite. Aconite root contains alkaloids that can pass through the skin — and an occlusive patch
worn for hours, or use on damaged skin, increases that absorption. Do not exceed the recommended
wear time, do not stack multiple patches, and never apply to broken skin. Stop immediately and seek
medical advice if you notice numbness or tingling of the mouth or face, nausea, dizziness or palpitations.
